The Show to Start
BANA’s Fifth Annual Plant Exchange and Auction had originally been scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 18, 2009. However, because of a forecast of severe weather that morning, the event was postponed for a week, until the morning of April 25th.
A number of Briarwood residents, not aware of the postponement last week, (BANA events are listed and updated on the BANA Event Calendar available at: http://www.briarwoodlr.org/page3.html), were disappointed when they drove to the Brady Elementary School only to be told that the event had been postponed.

These are the four (plus Betty Danley who is taking the picture) who put the show together: l to r, Jeff Whitby, Michele Easter, Elaine Braddock and Jay Atkins.
The Plant Exchange and Auction Raised $165
Although postponed a week because of weather, BANA’s Fifth Annual Plant Exchange and Auction did draw people and was still able to raise $165.00.
The money will be shared with the Brady Elementary School.
Many Plants Were Donated
By Healthy Lawns & Shrubs Company
Plants like sedum, a number of varieties of ivy and holly, daffodil bulbs, confederate jasmine and sweet autumn clematis were brought by BANA residents to swap.
In addition, the Healthy Lawns & Shrubs Company of 7225 West 12th Street donated a large number of plants especially for the auction. These included Encore, camellias, nandinas, yaupon, junipers, muhly grass, forsythia, lorapedalum, Chinese holly, caladiums and airplane plants

Auctions Off Plants
The 5th Annual Plant Exchange closed with an auction conducted by Jay Atkins, a professional real estate auctioneer.
Conducted in the parking lot of the Brady School, the auction attracted a few passersby on Markham Street and induced them to drive in.
But all told, attendance was sparse and those who placed winning bids got healthy plants at bargain prices.
Like past plant exchanges, it was fun for all who came..
